How to: Decorate Your Home Virtually with PicCollage

While having a personal interior designer would be nice (and a fat bank account even nicer!), PicCollage offers a fun, practical alternative to help you decorate your home virtually without the commitment or cost.

Transform your decorating process with these five simple steps that let you visualize furniture, decor, and color schemes before making any purchases!

Make the move-in or decorating process a lot easier by following these five easy steps:

Step 1: Capture Your Canvas

Take a clear photo of the room or space you want to decorate. Try to shoot in natural daylight for the most accurate colors, and capture the room from different angles for multiple design options.

Pro Tip: Make sure the photo is well-lit and shows the entire space you plan to decorate for the best visualization results.

Step 2: Set Up Your Digital Design Board

Open the PicCollage app and tap Get Started. Import your room photo and adjust the canvas size to give yourself plenty of workspace. This will be your digital design board where all the magic happens!

How to do it:

  • Tapย Get Startedย on the home screen
  • Select your room photo from your camera roll
  • Adjust the canvas size using the sizing tool at the bottom of the screen

Step 3: Test Furniture with the Cutout Tool

Can’t decide between two sofas? Eyeing a statement piece online but unsure if it’ll work in your space? The Cutout tool lets you virtually place furniture in your room before buying!

How to use Cutout:

  1. Save photos of furniture you’re considering to your camera roll
  2. Import the furniture photo to PicCollage
  3. Double tap on the photo and select “Cutout”
  4. Trace around the furniture with your finger until you complete the outline our use the Auto feature for an AI powered cut
  5. Tap the checkmark to finish
  6. Position the cutout furniture in your room photo and resize as needed

Pro Tip:ย For the most realistic preview, try to find furniture photos with a straight-on angle and neutral background for easier cutting.

Step 4: Fill Your Space with Web Images

Starting from scratch? Use our Web Image search to browse endless decor options and visualize different styles in your space. This feature is perfect for experimenting with accessories, artwork, plants, and smaller decor items.

How to use Web Image:

  1. Tap the “+” button at the bottom of the screen
  2. Select “Web Image”
  3. Search for specific items like “modern floor lamp png” or “boho plant stand png” (adding “png” helps find images with transparent backgrounds)
  4. Select the image you like and it will appear on your canvas
  5. Resize and position it in your room design

Pro Tip: Try searching for “[color] + [item] + png” to find decor that matches your color scheme, such as “terracotta vase png” or “navy blue throw pillow png.”

Step 5: Save Multiple Design Options

Can’t decide between modern minimalist and cozy bohemian? Create multiple collages with different design directions and compare them side by side. This helps you see which style feels most like “you” before investing in actual pieces.

Pro Tip: Label each design variation with text stickers so you remember which furniture pieces and accessories you used in each concept.

Remember, there’s no such thing as too kitschy or too plain when it comes to your personal space. Trust your instincts and create a home that feels authentically yours!
